I’m excited to share that I have officially applied to fill the vacancy on Columbus City Council, created by the departure of Councilmember Shayla Favor–as she goes on to be the next Franklin County Prosecutor.
This application represents my commitment to the community I call home and the intersectional identities that I embody. District 7 deserves a councilperson who brings diverse experiences, innovative ideas, and a passion for building an inclusive, thriving Columbus. It would be an honor to step into this role and serve our district during this critical time in our City’s growth.
What’s Next?
The application process, outlined by the Columbus City Council, will unfold over the next few weeks. It includes public engagement and deliberation by council members. On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 5 p.m., a public hearing will take place, allowing community members to provide feedback on the finalists. Your voice matters, and I encourage you to participate if possible! “Members of the public who wish to provide testimony, either in-person or written, should email Kevin McCain at KBMccain@columbus.gov with the subject line “Speaking at Vacancy Public Hearing” by noon on the day of the hearing.”
Looking Ahead to the 2025 Election
While I am applying for the interim position, I am also actively preparing for the November 2025 election to serve District 7 for a full term. As part of this effort, I am currently collecting signatures to secure my place on the ballot. I would like to collect over the 250 required signatures so as to ensure once being validated I can hit 250.
If you live in District 7—or know someone who does—I would greatly appreciate your help in gathering the required signatures. You can also volunteer to assist with outreach, even if you don’t reside in the district.
Thank you for your support .
With pride,
Densil
