This week has been another reminder that we live in a time of tension and transformation. For the LGBTQ+ community, for democracy, and for all those striving to create a more just and inclusive world, the weight of the moment is undeniable.
We’ve seen continued legislative attacks on trans and nonbinary individuals, from restrictions on gender-affirming care to barriers placed on basic identification documents. We’ve witnessed the resurgence of hateful rhetoric in the public sphere, fueling an environment that makes simply existing as our full, authentic selves feel like an act of defiance.
Yet, in the face of this, we have also seen bold acts of defiance, resilience, and solidarity. We’ve seen individuals and organizations refuse to be silenced, standing firm in their commitment to justice and inclusion. We’ve seen allies show up, not just in words but in action, reminding us that even in difficult times, we do not stand alone–we are stronger together.
For me personally, this week has been about reflection and recalibration. The weight of advocacy is real, but so is the power of community. I’ve spent time in conversations about how we move forward, how we continue to push for progress, and how we protect and fight for our joy–even in the midst of struggle.
Because joy is an act of resistance. Rest is an act of resistance. Loving ourselves and each other fiercely is an act of resistance.
So as we close out this month and look ahead to February, let’s hold onto these truths:
- Our fight is far from over, but neither is our resilience.
- We must protect and uplift one another.
- We deserve to celebrate our existence—not just in defiance of oppression, but in honor of all we have built and will continue to build.
