October 12th is my birthday and I am having a little dinner for 700 people!
In December of 2009 I accepted an invitation to serve as the Co-Chair for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Greater Bay Area Gala, which is to occur on October 23rd, 2010. While I have always supported the HRC with my annual donations my greatest joy has come in the last several months as I have had the privilege of working with the organization in a very active way. As an organization helping to move forward the political agenda of causes central to the Lesbian, Gay, Bi, and Trans communities I see the HRC as an invaluable asset to the championing of human rights.
The event holds a very important place for me in the grand scheme of my personal goals–I am a five year planner and life goal setter. This dinner will be the capstone activity of my 30th year, a kick-off to my next five year plan (which includes world domination), and a celebration of the HRC’s great work. So of course this is a moment I want to share with as many loved ones as I possible can.
I know travel to far off exotic locations, like the San Francisco Bay Area, can be costly and when you add the cost of a gala event ticket ($250 for general) it can seem rather expensive…so, this is why I am contacting you early! With roughly four months to go if you plan now you can make a great trip out of the event and being so close to places like Napa (The Wine Country), Muir Woods (home of the Great Red Woods), and Santa Cruz (ever been to the Mystery Spot?) your trip can be even greater!
While I would love it if I could house everyone who came to visit the reality of my humble San Francisco existence is that Sofya, my boyfriend, and I live in a nice (but small) place in Pacific Heights–we are really paying for the zip code. However, there are some great housing options close to us and even at the gala event space. Want to be my neighbor…well considering staying directly across the street from my apartment at a charming B&B called the Artists Inn http://www.artistsinn.com. Artists Inn has been featured a number of Bay Area and National magazines as one of the oldest B&Bs in the Greater Bay Area–known for its original art and Pacific Heights charm. Don’t feel like lending me some sugar…well stay three blocks away at Circa 1870. Circa is known for its “home away from home” feeling–but most meals are usually eaten out and about in the wonderful Fillmore District. Nestled in the heart of Japan Town is Hotel Tomo (a Best Western and Joie de Vivre Hotel), only five blocks away from my apartment, recently featured as one of the Coolest Hotel Designs in CA; get a Joie de Vivre discount, 20% off, by using promo code PRIDESF online or over the phone. Want to stay at the host hotel? The Fairmont San Francisco has special rates starting at $189 per night from 10/22 through 10/24. To make your reservations dial 800.441.1414 and ask for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Dinner room rates. Of course this is a major city and there are tons of hotels all around so the choice is truly your own.
Now you are thinking I have given you all this information about where to stay, but I haven’t told you how to get your ticket! Well if you haven’t figured out how to buy your gala ticket here is how:
Of course I have my own table and would love it if you were to sit with me at my table…its a 10 top…(but if I get an over flow I will have two tables!)
To log in and purchase your ticket(s) you can travel to http://tinyurl.com/sfhrcgala and follow the next steps:
1) Decide if you would like a General or VIP ticket and then click “Order Now”.
2) Select the quantity & price level for your ticket(s) (regular price, unless you are a federal club member).
3) Select “add to cart”.
4) Review your order; “check-out and complete your order” or “continue shopping”.
5) If you have previously purchased a ticket using Box Office Tickets you can use the same login information; if this is your first time using Box Office Tickets you will need to create a new account.
6) Once in your account you can now select the table where you would like to be seated; if you have no preference select “no preference”–however you should select my table!
7) Follow the rest of the directions on the page; click “continue check-out”.
8) The last several steps will take you through entering your credit card information and final review of your gala purchase.
It would be great if you could make it out for the event…but I understand it may not fit in to the bigger picture–either way send love and positive vibes ’cause its gonna be a great 30th year!
