The office at Stonewall Columbus which I occupy is full of things that can be seen as an amplified microcosm of my mind: the things that I believe to be most important to the work at hand—creating space for those most in need of space as we fight for equity and equality so we ensure a community where we, queer people, are all seen and thriving.
In the office a large vinyl replica of a Keith Haring piece serves as a reminder that the world wide fight against HIV/AIDS is far from over and that its impact in the LGBTQ+/queer community has been the most ravishing of any population. But, my life experience also reminds me that HIV/AIDS is not singularly a queer issue…my mother a heterosexual cis-female died in 1995 of complications due to HIV/AIDS…so, that makes it a human issue.

I was coming of age as HIV/AIDS was “coming of age” and society hadn’t given me a long life expectancy.
