(this is not an endorsement for any candidate)

I have always said, and will continue to say, that Obama can deliver a message that inspires and because he can inspire he will go far. Nevertheless, much like religion where we seek out good delivers of the message we expect and then raise them to a new level, we do the same in politics. So, please take a moment and think not about Clinton, McCain or Obama when you read this, but think about yourself.

The intangible item: Your Country (America) = Your Religion (god, specific to your religion)
The physical representation of the intangible item: Government = Church
The human enactors of the physical representation of the intangible item: Elected Official(s) = Your Religious Leader(s)

The principles of our religion inspire our faith in our god.
The principles of our country inspire our faith in our America.

Do we expect our religious leaders to inspire our faith in our god?
One’s faith in their god should not be dependent on one’s belief in their religious leader.
Do we expect our elected officials to inspire our faith in our country?
One’s faith in their country should not be dependent on one’s belief in their elected official.

One’s trust in their church is dependent on their religious leaders.
One’s trust in their government is dependent on their elected officials.

We believe in our country because we know regardless of what our elected officials do America is and always will be a great place.
We believe in our god because we know regardless of what our religious leaders do our god is and always will be a great god.

Does the message delivered by an engaging religious leader make going to your place of worship better? YES!
Does the message delivered by an engaging elected official make going to your government better? YES!

As a follower of your religion can circumstances make you disenchanted with your religion? Yes.
As a follower of your America can circumstances make you disenchanted with your country? Yes.

The people of America are disenchanted with their elected officials and if their cores are so shaken then maybe, just maybe their faith in America is being questioned. Let us not forget our faith should be restored by reading the text of America, the documents that guide America, much like one’s faith should be restored by reading the text of their religion, the documents that guide their religion.

Let us not confuse trust and faith. Faith is not a concept of physicality, trust is, however.

And let us say then that the message may be the same, but the delivery of the message is most important to us as people, as Americans. We are a civilization unable to affirm ourselves through personal understanding and we seek affirmation in our beliefs by those who lead us. And this, some say, is ok.
