The star of the USA series “White Collar,” Matt Bomer, age 34, publicly came out as gay on Saturday.
Bomer had earlier decided not to comment on speculation surrounding his love life, telling Details magazine in 2010, “I don’t care about that at all. I’m completely happy and fulfilled in my personal life.”
Bomer’s partner Simon Halls is a Hollywood based publicist, representing actors such as Neil Patrick Harris and “Glee” creator, Ryan Murphy.
Bomer joins a growing list of television, film and music personalities who have come out in public forums in the last few years; Harris came out publicly in 2006 at the age of 33.I am glad that these men are among some that are feeling ok to come out and be their full-selves in front of the world. I still find myself wondering where the brown folks are.
Are cultural stigmas still so great in our communities that gay brown faces who parallel the star power of the Harris and Bomer types are not ready to step out of the shadows?
