Remember when Kerry Washington, star of the television show SCANDAL, hosted SNL back in early November of 2013? It was a huge deal because the writers elected to highlight the lack of female cast members of color, notably Black, that were on the show or had been members of the cast over the years.

Well it seems, under much pressure, the producers at SNL have worked to correct their seeming lapse in casting. African-American Sasheer Zamata was recently confirmed to be joining the Saturday Night Live cast and who recently chimed in with support… Miss Kerry Washington herself.

Look for Zamata to make her SNL debut on Saturday, Jan. 18, the first live show of 2014. Drake will host and be the musical guest. Zamata is Saturday Night Live’s first female black cast member since Maya Rudolph left the show in 2007.
