Why the move and why now? Well earlier this year Welts reveled in a New York Times piece that he was gay and hoped to be closer to his partner who resides in Northern California. As the highest ranking sports executive to publicly come out as gay I give him many kudos and proudly applaud the NBA for sticking with him and acknowledging his talents and not his sexuality.
I am excited to see how Welts will wake the seemingly sleeping giant that is the Warriors. His talents in Arizona were not wasted and his presence in Sacramento will surely be felt in immediate ways. Maybe I’ll even make it to a game.
