A great many football fan across the globe has been waiting to see the outcome for Michael Sam an All-American defensive end who played for the University of Missouri.
Today history was made as Sam became the first openly gay player to be drafted by a National Football League team.
Sam was picked by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh and final round. He was the 249th of 256 players selected. The 24-year-old got the news by telephone from Rams’ coach Jeff Fisher, who told Sam: “You are a Ram. The wait is finally over.”
I give the most astounding applause to ESPN for capturing and sharing this moment for the entire world to see. And I am telling you today the St. Louis Rams just earned themselves a groundswell of new fans.
