Goodbye Regis we will miss you…

Kathy Lee, Regis & Kelly

In January Regis Philbin announced his departure from his 30+ year running talk show now known as “Live with Regis & Kelly”. The show, in its 23rd season in national syndication, began as a local morning show in New York in 1983.

Kathie Lee Gifford joined Philbin in 1985 and the show debuted three years later nationally as “Live with Regis & Kathie Lee.” Gifford left the show in 2000 and Philbin was joined by current co-host Kelly Ripa in 2001.

Now the race to replace Regis is really on. Regis gave a firm date for his last appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly — Nov. 18 — and the show’s producers are starting to line up a list of potential new hosts to sit next to Kelly Ripa.

According to executive producer Michael Gelman, the show already has a transition plan in place — starting with the new, temporary title Live with Kelly, which will be used until that new co-host is found. That’s one of a handful of tweaks will be implemented in the wake of Philbin’s exit. “We’ll change things up a bit,” Gelman tells TV Guide Magazine. “We want to fit Kelly’s personality.”

Jerry Seinfeld, the Seinfeld comedian, has been tapped as the first guest host opposite Kelly Ripa on Live with Kelly following the departure of Regis Philbin on Nov. 18. Seinfeld will join the show for three tapings beginning Nov. 21.

Who should replace Regis? Maybe they should turn to YouTube and see what they get? I mean isn’t America all about new reality personality that come from the “common folk”? Maybe I should try out…can you imagine it “Live with Kelly & Densil”…yes, I am ok with taking second billing–for now!!
